In the fall, I used the hurricane data in my Earth Science classes. It was so timely; we were studying climate at the time. The students compiled data on each storm and compared them in a graphic organizer of their choice. Many of them used the graphics from USA TODAY. I receive the paper three times a week which is funded by the High Schools to Work Grant/Tech Prep. Every two weeks I ask the students to survey the newspaper for new technologies. They highlight and summarize each article and then as they share the article in class, they place them on a bulletin board according to the technology category. Then the students generate bar graphs on their graphing calculators to compare the frequency of each category of technology and what is making the news!
